Smallville bosses Julius Steinhoff and Justus von Ahlefeld return to their own label with fresh Smallpeople material. Following their heavier-footed In The Jungle EP for Gerd Jansen’s Running Back imprint, Lowrider Anarchy is the first release on their Hamburg label home since their debut album Salty Days in 2012. The duo has been further coddling their sound aesthetic – in favour of Sunday daytime ambience with muffled analogue-style synths and gently evolving 808 percussion. ‘Blissful Limbo’ couldn’t be a better choice of name for its sonic mood equivalent. The title track introduces a grumpy bass element, and the closer aims for shuffling hi-hats, its ambient background chords are the EP’s unlikely thread.
