London DJ/producer Shy One makes her debut on Errol and Alex Rita’s Touching Bass imprint with her long-awaited second album Mali. Titled after her given name, the record is a confident, future-facing statement of Black British electronic music, shaped by the full spectrum of London sound - from bruk and broken beat to nu-jazz, soulful house, and UK garage. Raised in a musical lineage deeply embedded in British culture - as the daughter of Trevor Nelson, a key figure in championing Black British music since the late 80s - Shy One’s sound feels instinctive and lived-in rather than referential. Moving fluidly between dancefloor pressure and more down-tempo moments, Mali captures the energy of the rave, the radio dial, and the spaces in between. Vital contributions from George Riley, Steve Spacek, James Massiah and Private Joy reinforce the album’s diasporic backbone, while Shy One remains firmly at the centre, carving out her own path with a sound that’s unmistakably London.
