Genres

One of three seminal Brian Jonestown Massacre albums to be given a 2015 vinyl reissue on Anton Newcombe’s own A Records, 2001’s Bravery, Repetition and Noise is a deceptively light and airy collection, whose richly layered textures conceal a somewhat darker heart than some of its predecessors. Drawing together the seemingly contradictory influences of punk and psychedelic folk, Newcombe and co demonstrate their inimitable knack for bending disparate genres to their will, from the lo-fi Britpop of opener ‘Just For Today’ through melancholy ballads like ‘You Have Been Disconnected’ to the faux psychedelia of ‘Let Me Stand Next To Your Flower’.
