Tokyo’s formidable experimental three-piece return to Oren Ambarchi’s Black Truffle Records with the recording of the second part of their staggering live performance taken from Superdeluxe back in March 2013. Whilst the first part of the series (Only Wanting To Melt Away…) flaunted the trio’s multi-instrumental talents, Tea Time For Those Determined... sees them revert back to their signature guitar, drums and vocal assault. The record opens with a frenzied, hammering barrage of drum stomps and pandemonic cymbal crashes that are intensified by Haino’s desolate, reverb-drenched guitar silt. The second piece ‘Let’s Make It A Bit Thicker…’ slips into a more meditative mood, gradually unfolding into a free form psyche-out with Haino’s charismatic Japanese screeches firmly at the helm, whereas ‘After Drinking Once Again…’ is another atmospheric slow burner that again ends in an abrasive wall of sound.
