Canada’s Egyptrixx takes a break from Night Slugs with a release on his own brand new Halocline Trance label. Setting the scene is ‘Halocline Trance’, beginning with a dramatic, two minute sustained chord which then descends into ambient industrialism - aggressive clangs and rattles punctuating John Carpenter-esque synths. The sense of cinematic tension is a recurring theme throughout the seven tracks on offer here – the grinding machine samples and erratic structure of ‘Body II Body’ and ‘Mirror Etched On Shards Of Amethyst’ could have been lifted directly from the soundtrack of some mid-eighties dystopian sci-fi – while centre-piece ‘Discipline 1982’ brings order to the chaos, wrestling its metallic weight into a driving 4/4 rhythm which is then picked up and expanded by epic closer ‘Conduit’.
