Opal Tapes continue their saga with another thrilling project: having released a handful of excellent experimental techno EPs as half of the duo Lumisokea, Andrea Taeggi is no stranger to the label. As Gondwana he now goes solo with a debut that pushes his work into even more abstract spheres, deconstructing the architecture of song form. Whereas the hard-hitting sub-beat of ‘Bootstrapping’ bridges the release with previous outings, texture-focussed tracks like ‘Entelecha’ or ‘The Invisible Prison’ rather bear a likeness to electro-acoustic compositions. ‘Binaural Beats’ distorts its oscillating sine waves in equally conceptual ways. And Aum’s sonic concepts are as exciting as its semantics: the polytonal drone of Þingvellir recalls the overwhelming power of the eponymous national park in Iceland, where in 930 the Althing, one of the oldest extant parliamentary institution in the world was founded.
