London-based artist Tom Hirst returns under his Design A Wave pseudonym with the International Journey Of Synthetic Emotion EP, coming off the back of two huge releases on Rush Hour’s popular No ‘Label’ offshoot. First, ‘I’ gets things off to a wonky start, with doodling notes colliding with clumsy bass thuds and phased string rushes. More cosmic, electro themes underpin ‘II’, offering warm, woozy pads and piecing frequencies extrapolating into the future, whilst ‘III’ sinks a frazzled arpeggio into a dub-rich disco mould.
