Larry Heard dips back into his seemingly endless vault to reissue a long out-of-print classic from one of his various late 80s aliases, Gherkin Jerks on his own Alleviated imprint. 1988’s Stomp The Beat EP has a workmanlike theme that lends itself well to the functional tunes contained within. Tracks like ‘Acid Indigestion’ and ‘Midi Beats’ deliver as promised, while the closing ‘Din Sync (Get Up And Do Your Thing)’ adds vocal one hits to the Jerks’ simple-but-sturdy machine rhythms. This is a must-have for any early Chicago house head.
