Prostitutes returns for another run out on Powell’s excellent Diagonal imprint with the Ecstasy, Crashing Beats and Fantasy EP. Spread across four cuts, the Ohio-based producer focuses on an electro mould, but instead of the clinical, Detroit-variety its one that’s been tormented, frazzled and frayed. The opening cut ‘Crawl In From Broadway’ is styled around a bitter chord stab, with an assortment of squiggled patterns, tinny percussion and voices steadily coagulating around it. Funked-out wah wah guitar riffs and drums lead the way on the gurgling ‘Dollar’s To DMs’ whereas ‘Lovers Run To Camp America’ unfolds over a distilled drum set with garbled voices adding a sinister edge. Finally, we land on ‘Side Effect Of Living’, which gets our vote due to its warped, degenerate electro chug.
