Artists of Autechre’s tenure might see an abundance of covers albums coming their way at this point in their career, but only one man has truly had the guts to transmute their work so far. Shane Parish’s guitar playing is almost inhumanly dextrous, a perfect if completely unforeseen match for the mindbending stature of Autechre’s arrangements. Not only is Autechre Guitar mesmerisingly beautiful, but it really teases the math out of their 90s catalogue: harmonies rub fluidly against each other, fingers slide impossibly across frets, and Parish maintains a metronymic sense of rhythm, revealing that anything can be a synthesiser if you try hard enough to transcend its limits.
