The celebrated beat icon William S Burroughs has for many years dabbled in the world of sound, either with solo projects or as collaborations with artists including Arthur Russell and Kurt Cobain. ‘Nothing Here Now But The Recordings’ is one such collaboration, archived with the assistance of members of Throbbing Gristle in 1981 and reissued on vinyl for the first time by Dais Records. TG’s Genesis P-Orridge and Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson compiled the album using Burroughs’ archives of experimental sound recordings, with the end product featuring cut-up spoken word and collaged field recordings alongside EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) recording techniques.
