Al Wootton sneaks one last record into his prolific 2025 run and it’s an enthralling one: Glorias is the first release on AD 93’s Lith Dolina since 2022, an extended exploration of the International Brigades role in the Spanish Civil War, sampling works by composers who were exiled from Franco's Spain and field recordings of the Spanish countryside. Split into equal parts with and without drums, the track floats in like a spectre haunting us with its deceptive bliss. A glitchy unstable peace as strings fluctuate and stretch, calling to mind Arthur Russel performing Arvo Pärt mangled by The Caretaker with loping loops of groaning horsehair on wound steel texture. The ‘Drums Version’ highlights these hypnotic, misty reverberations, while an elegant sense of dread traipses through the ‘Drumless Version’ into the fragile beauty of crystal clear strings.
