NYC’s Lord RAJA triumphs on A Constant Moth by bringing the languages of IDM, ambient and vintage dance underneath an umbrella of retrofuturistic hip hop. No track embodies this mission statement quite like Van Go where Jerimiah Jae’s extraterrestrial flow bounces along the bustling production. Then there’s Throw Them Out where RAJA’s footwork influences come to the fore for a swarming sidewalk shuffle. While the collaborations give the LP a sense of purpose, it is the all-encompassing beat making of RAJA that comes out on top on A Constant Moth.
