San-Francisco-based producer and Isounderscore founder Brandon Nickell lands on the new promising local imprint Ge-stell. After previous releases for his own label and Tundra in 2013, Skyline takes his experimental techno approach to new dimensions. His interest for computational models and engineering simulations with algorithmic overlay was never as obvious before: it’s astonishing how Nickell brings together seemingly autonomous tracks of drums, sound effects and dissonant synth melodies in a holistic sonic picture. Mastered by mastering legend Rashad Becker in Berlin, Skyline oscillates between spacious and arresting arrangements. Not unlike many of the PAN releases, it revolves around a dance music core, yet fuses such a wide variety of influences that it renders any categorizations pointless.
