Steve Spacek, best known for his work with Spacek and Africa HiTech, takes us on a sonic tour of his upbringing in South London with Modern Streets, his debut solo output for Ninja Tune under the Beat Spacek moniker. Purportedly created using primarily iPhone and iPad apps, Modern Streets is a big, bold slice of 21st century soul. Built on a foundation of fat synth lines and insistent electro drum patterns, Steve’s vocals veer from rasping rap to fragile falsetto, bringing elements of Horace Andy, Jamie Lidell and Gonjasufi and blending them into something truly unique and of its time.
