Almost eight years after their foundation, Belgian techno label Token look inward to showcase their roster’s excellence: Aphelion is a compilation of new and exclusive material by label regulars and like-minded artists, commissioned by founder Kr!z himself. Throughout the beats are throbbing relentlessly, yet display the label’s appreciation of techno’s diversity: Berlin-based Lucy adds circling synth work, which veteran James Ruskin trumps with acid vibe echo; Luke Slater crafted an ode to the 808 under his influential Planetary Assault Systems moniker, and Surgeon plays with plenty of distortion.
