New York duo Teengirl Fantasy are the first to release on the new local label Break World Records. The Thermal EP follows last year’s Nun on This Is Music Ltd and bridges their early instrumental production approach with the vocal-dominated arrangements they put forward on their 2012 album Lacer: ‘Cavescape’ and ‘7.30 AM’ are fragmented, sonic explorations led by strong synth melodies and subdued by overpowering drum sounds, whereas ‘Lung’ features New York singer Lafawndah (somewhere between Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano and Kelela) and Korean R’n’B vocalist Hoody stars on the EP’s soulful closer.
