After a long time of being out of print, Gnome Life reissues Robbie Basho’s 1979 album ‘Art of the Acoustic Steel String Guitar 6 & 12’. The Baltimore-born virtuoso became part of the legacy around the label Takoma Records and their coining of the genre American primitivism in the 1960s, fusing Indian traditions with US-American folk. The lesser known ‘Art of the Acoustic Steel String Guitar 6 & 12’ was his second album for Windham Hill and is considered his magnum opus of solo guitar. The instrumentals shimmer between Eastern and Western modalities, and on ‘Pasha II’, we get to witness what might be one of his most captivating vocal performances, blending his vibrating, melismatic singing into the dramatic harmonies of his guitar playing.
