The 1986 release kicking Against The Pricks was the third LP from Australian-born Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds group. With the line up now consisting of Cave, new drummer Thomas Wydler, Mick Harvey, Blixa Bargeld (Einsturzende Neubauten) and Barry Adamson, the group launch a passionate assault on a range of 20th Century classics with a suite of covers. ‘I’m Gonna Kill That Woman’ is a savage interpretation of the bluesy John Lee Hooker classic, followed by a smoky cover of Johnny Cash’s country favourite ‘The Folk Singer’, here reduced to ‘The Singer’. ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties’ is another charismatic cover, offering a sweat-drenched and altogether raspier take on the 1967 Velvet Underground classic of the same name.
