Gabriel Garzon-Montano manages to craft a sound on this release that sits decidedly apart from digital modification but has all the tightness and originality of a big-budget release. With an open book ethos and a brand of vocal work that blends Leonard Cohen’s candour with Chet Faker’s tone, tracks like Me Alone and Naeja are honest assessments of the human condition. Heavy grooves and youthful exuberance triumphs as nothing feels at all overcooked. One highlight comes in the form of the chilling Pour Maman where a slinky jazz infused instrumental hovers above a D’Angelo-esque vocal effort.
