Manchester’s Paleman returns with his second EP for Loefah’s Swamp 81 this year. An ensemble of trombones, a suspenseful violin sound and a closed hi hat build up tension, announcing the drop of ‘Beezeldub’s’ beat: Paleman sets a deep synth bassline against the pressing sounds of the brass instruments, luring the title track knee-deep into the sub-frequencies. On the B-side, the producer warps a vocal sample beyond recognition: ‘Newun’ works with a compartmentalized rhythmical structure with its bouncy percussive elements placed so cleverly, they’re depriving the arrangement of any adopted genre assumptions.
