Almost a decade after their last album on Ninja Tune, Polish duo Skalpel return with a full-length on their new own label PlugAudio. Their jazz-infused sound aesthetic picks up where they left it. Skalpel’s arrangements of delicate drums, mellow saxophones and jamming guitars nod to Poland’s rich jazz heritage: they take inspiration from the Krzysztof Komeda Quintet or Czes?aw Bartkowski. Their new production approach of mixing virtual synths and instruments with samples however enabled them to expand their musical influences: on Transit, the duo more than ever also incorporates elements of American jazz, Latin music, psychedelic rock and European pop.
