Astral Black label head Jon Phonics teams up with Alexander Nut’s Hotep Records for the heady three-tracker entitled Elevations EP. The undisputed standout here is the title cut where Phonics links up with fellow London-based vocalist Yasine, aligning her rich, soulful vocals to a slack, grainy beat. Flipping over, ‘Naim’ deploys a frazzled broken beat, punctuated by irregular claps and quirks whilst ‘Bazooka’ is an intense blast of thunderous drumming and sliced string samples.
