By approaching a range of dance music blueprints head on, Rival Consoles (aka Ryan Lee West) manages to create a genre-busting EP that puts acid beats in the mix with wiry synth melodies and places orchestral string sections alongside IDM-indebted trickery to create intriguing cuts like Seventeen and Juncture. Without shying away from the more abrasive Tim Hecker-esque field of noise, The Decadent EP never becomes too inharmonious. Genres are visited in an exploratory manner rather than a one-track quest for commotion.
