Maria Somerville’s horizons expanded considerably when joining 4AD and dropping her second album Luster, and they get wider still as she releases her first ever remix EP. Friends and sonic family either amplify Somerville’s dreamy shoegaze visions or take them further than one could imagine. You can feel the deep sub bass pulses of Seefeel’s ‘Stonefly’ remix before you hear them as they paint slow stroke of dappled guitars in an elastic sound collage, while the rugged and raw YHWH Nailgun bring offkilter drums tumbling into hypnosis, followed by a murky left turn with the blown out witch house of Oscar 18 and Asa Nisi Masa’s ‘Corrib’ remix. Japanese heavy guitar legends Boris close out the affair with an apt oneiric cacophony as fellow shoegaze worshippers, albeit percolated through a hefty dose of their own doom drone amplifier worhship.
