Two years after the release of his fifth album The North Borders, Simon Green returns to his long-time home Ninja Tune as Bonobo with a characteristic EP. The sound of Flashlight is informed by his signature style of loosely flowing arrangements: on the title track it comes in the form of a plucking beat and airy guitar chords, with more and more elements joining in seemingly unnoticed. ‘Pelican’ puts more emphasis on the beat with its clear snares and hi-hats, and ‘Return To Air’ is drenched in a dreamy atmosphere of melancholic mallet arpeggios and high-pitched chopped up vocals.
