After a two-year break, Bulgarian duo 1000 Names make their debut on Kelpe’s Drut Recordings with their 2014 LP Migration Pads, their forth full length release. As with their strong output on Black Acre Recordings and Project Mooncircle, Migration Pads models the Sofia-based pair’s woozy, lo-fi-driven sounds to full effect. We’re eased in gently with the lush ambient melodies of ‘The Caravan’, naturally settling into a deep-set groove whereas ‘Another Beaten Sunday’ puts similar, chiming astral melodies to work into a more instrumental hip-hop framework. ‘Enter Jules Verne’ drags us into cosmic disco territory with its slack groove constantly accompanied by filtered synth swipes whilst the final grainy textures on ‘Winter Pool’ closes up beautifully.
