Chicago's Beau Wanzer self-releases his self-titled debut album, following a slew of assured releases for L.I.E.S., Russian Torrent Versions and Nation. This record gathers together a dozen tracks from his personal archives from the period between 2002 and 2008, and provides an intriguing look at this exciting artist. 'Mob Boss' is a jerky groove, hip-hop flavoured yet crisply electronic. '23132' is a sinister militaristic stomp, evoking other-worldly drones marching in legion. 'I Don't Even Want To' flips swollen 80s guitar sounds with EBM moans and groans. 'Oklahama #1' and 'Shitty Cough' are juddering techno stomps that would sound perfect at Andrew Weatherall's A Love From Outer Space club night. While archival uncoverings are 10 a penny these days, this one deserves all the attention it gets.
