Following on EPs for Hush Hush and Dropping Gems, Alex Osuch makes his full-length debut on the latter Portland label. DJAO expands on the meditative and pastoral sound of Osuch’s past work by drawing on R&B (on the silky smooth ‘Tan Jacket’) and footwork (an implicit influence on the syncopated rhythms of ‘Kitchen’ and ‘Depressing Jog Ends Well’). It’s also the first release in which Osuch experiments with his own vocals, pushing them to the forefront of the record on tracks like the spacious ‘Woodgrain’.
