Gerd Janson’s Running Back imprint celebrates its 50th release: Berlin-based producer Redshape dignifies the milestone with an EP of techno delicacies. Following his Bonus Beatz EP for the label, Leaves offers four variations of a theme: the opening title track embraces the each-element-at-its-time philosophy, giving it space to slowly evolve into a multi-faceted warehouse banger. The programmatic names of the three remaining mixes hint at their purpose and sound: ‘Stripped 2 Clip’ takes away mid-frequency components, ‘Rotated Mix’ emphasizes sturdy synth and cymbal power, and ‘Stripped 2 Clip & 303’ lets the Roland synthesizer shine in its full glory.
