After his recent full-length for Planet Mu, Chicago’s Jamal Moss returns to his long-known Hieroglyphic Being moniker on this pulsing EP for Photomachine’s Technicolour. Stratifying whirling layers of mallet instruments, tinny hi-hats and acid sequences, ‘The Fourth Dimension’ progresses into overwhelming density. Its psychedelic feel is created over its course of almost twelve minutes, allowing for ultimate immersion. ‘Star Time’ slams right into it with one of Moss’ characteristic coarse beats and the sound effects of a dysfunctional steam engine, the synths fading in and out becoming purely rhythmical.
