Legendary poet and singer-songerwriter Leonard Cohen celebrates his 80th birthday with his incredible 13th studio album Popular Songs on Colombia. Beginning with the bluesy ‘Slow’, Cohen’s charismatic husky voice takes centre-stage from the off, followed by the lounge-esque ‘Almost Like The Blues’ where the gentle hand drumming and piano balance Cohen’s barbed vocals. ‘Did I Ever Leave You’ is an impassioned ballad that quickly shifts from a striking piano riff to an upbeat folksy groove whilst the soft strings of closer ‘You Got Me Singing’ wrap up an incredibly personal record on a poetic, upbeat note.
