As their latest instalment in a series of themed compilations, Norfolk’s reissue label LTM Recordings compile a far-reaching overview of The American Avant-Garde in the 20th Century. Following A Young Person’s Guide To The Avantgarde and The French Avantgarde in the 20th Century, this compilation represents a chronological journey through the past 100 years of US-American music pioneers. It spans from the polytonality of Charles Ives (1906) to avantgarde emigrants such as Leo Ornstein (1913), Dane Rudhyar (1928), the father of electronic music: Edgar Varèse (1929-1931), and Morton Feldman’s indeterminate compositions (1951) as well as John Cage’s complex works for prepared piano (1946-1948).
