The ultra expressive instrumentation of Wooden Elephant and Beethoven Orchestra Bonn make cinematic the already visceral source material of Moor Mother’s Analog Fluids of Sonic Black Holes in this colossal crossing of musical practices. Slowly collecting mass with looming notes, tender arrangements, and stomping urgency, the ensembles dramatically unravel to Moor Mother’s unsparing spoken word (“I hope you get what you’ve been giving out”), slyly reimagining the canon of US marching band music as a criticism of militaristic imperialism while imposing hammering drums and strings blur together.
