Noumen returns to the Central Processing Unit label after some time away for a new LP entitled Altrum. Less club functional than the average CPU release, Altrum finds Noumen exploring shifting, constantly mutating key and synth patches largely over piston-like midtempo chugs like he’s doing surgery on his gear. It’s not alien texture experimentation here though, as moments like the steamy machine funk title track and the bass heavy braindance of ‘Twelwind Scars’ are primed to move bodies all the same, while the aptly titled ‘Calm’ is there waiting for when you get home.
