Bleep

Veteran experimentalist Daedelus returns to Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder for his fifteenth album (but who's counting). A concept album of sorts, it evokes the period of the mid-19th-Century Crimean War. Daedelus moves from blissful electronics (Until Artillery) to gently plucked guitar and hushed choral sounds ('Baba Yaga', 'The Victory Of The Echo Over The Voice'), before exercising his own vocal chops on 'Tsars & Hussars'. 'Pre-Munitions' shuffles along with wide-eyed wonder, almost reminiscent of early Nightmares on Wax, but the overall mood is plaintive and reflective. This is one to be cherished and savoured, a beautiful take on a heart-rending subject.
