UK house producer Medlar turns in his debut album for the consistently strong Wolf Music. With an emotional scope extending beyond the dancefloor, this one works in any context. Built around a series of jazzy samples, wild trumpet and sax solos and furious (double) bass solos, it's got one eye on the past, reverentially aware of its forebears, but never forgetting about the dancefloors of today. 'The Escape' pits looped piano riffs around crisp house percussion and synth work; 'Tap Spring' blends emotive vocal chops with Medlar's signature house beats; 'Blues' throws pained vocals over an acid bassline.
