Mainz-based producer Amir’s releases for 8Bit, Trapez Ltd. and of course his own bouq.records have frequently been aligned with the current revival, or new wave, of deep house. On this EP for Amsterdam’s Inacto Records, Amir’s productions show a shift away from groove towards more austere constructions. Most notable is the crispness of the percussion on ‘Grapevine’ which sets him against the trend for degraded snares and kick drums. On the EP’s title track, Amir’s crystalline synths are gradually broken down as the wobbling bassline takes over.
