Primarily known for her guitar stint with punk band Huggy Bear and association with London’s club night cum label Bleep43, Jo Johnson lands on experimental imprint Further Records with a beautiful, debut collation of minimalistic composition entitled Weaving. Opening pieces ‘Ancestral Footsteps’ and ‘Weaving’ are easily comparable to the new-age tainted, minimalistic repetition of Terry Riley, with the delicate harp picks of the former and treated bass notes on the later gradually swelling in size to take on new levels of intensity. ‘Words Came Out After Music’ works the overtones with some more dexterous synth arpeggios, followed by the rubbery, sci-fi leaning bass notes of ‘In The Shadow Of The Workshop’. And finally, ‘Silver Threads’ rounds off by channeling a rounded, palpitating rhythm into a featherweight drone for the darkest moment of the LP.
