The London/Rome label Tina Records taps film composer/electronic musician Nokuit for their second release with Gates of Horn and Ivory. Nokuit has been slowly building towards the LP with a string of releases, but these Gates are a different animal entirely. Using Old Testament-style iconography to make sense of the modern world’s steep decline towards wickedness, these snarling, widescreen dispatches play more like marches into hell than anything meant to move bodies in a room on this mortal plain. The triumphant ‘Falling II’ works like a thesis statement of sorts, favouring pitched-down, almost demonic vocals that swirl around the sparse but jarring percussion like battle cries.Very highly recommended.
