LTJ Bukem’s goodlooking Records reissue a gem from their archives, Nookie’s 2001 full length In @ the Deep End. Nookie, real name Gavin Cheung, was already a veteran of the London scene, having released numerous sides under different names in different styles. Here he’s settled squarely on deep D&B. ‘Disillusion’ opens the LP energetically with heavenly pads played against intense, live sounding drums. ‘Natural Experience’ and ‘Beyond Therapy’ utilise vintage house piano, while ‘Innerspace’ and ‘Stepping Back’ are rich with Detroit style sci-fi synth work.
