New York’s golden boy and Proibito label head Anthony Naples is back for his second outing on the excellent The Trilogy Tapes with the Zipacon EP. Opening cut ‘Perro’ is an obvious expansion on ‘Busy Signal’ from his initial TTT release, this time giving the chord more freedom to work its melodic magic in unison with the tough, kicking drums. Next, the title cut ‘Zipacon’ leads off with sizzling hi-hats, gradually adding bass jabs and melodic pads for a reductionist electro cut whereas ‘More Problem’ goes all in for a muscular, floor-shaking, piano chord-driven exercise in a similar vein to Head High or DJ Duke. Finally, ‘Crazy Spirit’ wraps up in a more experimental mood with its ear-piercing, constantly oscillating chord and dampened drum base.
