The fifth album released by Sun Ra and his Myth Science Arkestra, When Sun Comes Out gets a loving reissue from Glasgow-based Poppydisc. While other reissues have packaged this one alongside the earlier release Fate in a Pleasant Mood, here it is presented solo in all its glory. Recorded and released in 1963, it focused on percussive workouts rather than wind-ensemble arrangements. A wonderful prefiguring of the group’s later cosmic burrowing, this is a key element of the vast Sun Ra back catalogue.
