London producer Davor Bokhari’s love for video games, which he first made apparent on his previous EP, Sin, released earlier this year, is even more obvious on this release for Gobstopper. ‘Gaia’ and ‘Mako March’ immediately call to mind Japanese RPG soundtracks: the former with its grandiose MIDI strings, the latter going a step further and reinterpreting one of the themes from Final Fantasy VII. ‘Amethyst’ is as crystalline as its title suggests with its iridescent synths and rat-a-tat rhythms. On Fate, Dark0 manages to find a unique take on the video game motif in grime.
