Coming out of the archives after a lengthy hibernation is the Hammer 86 EP from Irish electro-pop, post-punk outfit The SM Corporation. Recorded in 1986 but unreleased until now, ‘Hammer’ is airy piece of early, industrial-tinged EBM with a solid drum machine bass and twanged bass that’s easily placed along side the likes of SPK, Neon or even Front 242. For remixes, Optimo’s JD Twitch steps up, giving ‘Hammer’ a modern facelift with its nagging synth riff and heavier chord backdrop whilst Great Lakes Mystery’s ‘(After The) Hammer’ pushes the dramatics to the very edge with an added cello riff and vocal switch up.
The package also includes a download code for the Hill Street OST (sws004) by Great Lakes Mystery.
