After years out of press, White Noise’s seminal debut An Electric Storm gets a reissue. When engineering student David Vorhaus and BBC Radiophonic Workshop composer Delia Derbyshire formed the group in London in the late 1960s, their fusion of experimental electronics and psychedelic rock was unheard of. It is what makes An Electric Storm pioneering to date. Recorded in a studio in Camden and originally released by Island in 1969, its layered-up synthesizers and accentuated echo effects bear witness to its bold production. The album doesn’t follow given structures or forms: vocals move freely as spoken word and screams, are pitched and sped up, and clattering drums dictate chaos in their very own sturdy way. An Electric Storm is a must-have for any serious record collector.
