Slime Recordings affiliate Akin steps out on his own with his debut EP, courtesy of R&S offshoot Apollo Records. The Bristol-based producer, already in possession of a strong sonic identity, shows himself to be quite versatile stylistically. Acid-dub opener ‘Satori’ is chased by neck-breaking raver ‘Koroko’, a collaboration with 3rdeye. He masters two-step on the shambling ‘Monotone’ and eerie title track, and in fine Bristol tradition, slops genres together on the trip-hop flavoured ‘Unified Fields’. More than a collection of style exercises, each track is infused with ghostly ambience and a deeply personal, almost intimate quality.
