Detroit legend Juan Atkins sees his visionary Model 500 release The Passage EP on Apollo treated to timely reissue with additional mastering duties coming via London-based technician Matt Colton. The 1992 EP has long remained one of the most underrated releases in a highly lauded back catalogue and is noted for its woozy, breakbeat-infused opener ‘The Passage’ where Atkins may have been reflecting on some of the Balearic styles around at that time, albeit with a Detroit edge. ‘Mind Changes’ retains the emotional feel and picks up the tempo with its crisp, early-electro percussion and finally the heavily 80’s indebted ‘Vessels In Destress’ that’ll long live on in Detroit folk law as a timeless classic.
