David Chatton Barker & Ian Humberstone's Folklore tapes label presents a stunning boxset exploring the folk beliefs of seven villages in Dartmoor, an area of moorland located in the south west of England. The release is also inspired by the late folklorist Theo Brown, who conducted influential research in Devon, her interviews with locals carried out in the 1960s bringing to light previously unrecorded narratives. Using some of Brown's unpublished research as a starting point Ian Humberstone and David Chatton Barker have composed music spanning seven 7" records inspired by the folk history of the region. It's beautiful music, field-recordings, poignant instrumentation and noise brought together to create a series of delicate, immersive sketches. It's music further enriched by the accompanying booklet of essays, poster, postcards and DVD. There's even a pressed flower from Dartmoor included. An audio-visual delight.
