Dead Oceans present the debut full-length from their latest discovery, Los Angeles-based two-piece Dub Thompson. Still in their teens, guitarist Matt Pulos and drummer Evan Laffer are a noisy, mischievous lot that bang out garage-rock and dub-flavoured post punk tunes with flair beyond their years. Contained on 9 Songs, which is actually only 8 songs long, is everything from high speed, riff-heavy rockers (‘Hayward’, ‘Pterodactyls’) to craggy reggae (‘No Time’) and twitchy, hypnotic disco (‘Mono’), and there are even some pretty, melodic moments (‘Dograces’). Surely, listeners will find a number of reasons to keep an ear out.
